stuff that didn't get done from last year's list... i.e. the start of this year's to-do list... -$-get renter's insurance -- volunteer at the READ center -$-open a checking and/or savings account -$-go to the dentist -- learn/brush up on another language -$-take more classes toward one or more of my degrees (pay off various colleges first, ugh) -- submit stories -$-go to the carribean -- update the 100 things list -$-go to norfolk/VB -- learn to play poker -$-ride horses -- go to the VMFA -$-find a regular bar -$-send more $ to my folks -$-clean/spruce up the balcony (spring) -- go see a saturday night movie at the byrd -- write travelogues -- sew -- watch more movies -$-buy a mixer -- wear my boots -- read more books -$-buy more sexy undies -$-replace my navel ring -$-go see brooks -- work out a little -- enjoy more boys -$-get my passport -$-learn to swim better -$-buy another air purifier -$-shoot some guns seems the majority of these require $$, hence first i must work more. that's not a very happy start to a new year, is it? quickie notes about the loverly, relaxing VB trip with francis clay... arrived tuesday, dinner at jewish mother after not finding timbuktu. delish, guac with garlicky bagel chips and pita, then salmon with rice and veggies. veggies perfectly cooked, rice too. wednesday, errand running with clay, his check, bank, books, thrift store (2 pants, 2 sweaters, $9). dinner at rockfish b/c of entertainment book, but it turned out the food was all half off anyway. gotta love winter at the beach. yummy fried flounder, mashed potatoes, veggies. hush puppies too. thursday, lunch with L at waffletown. (it's close to their office.) crazy meth waitress w/dirty jokes, yummy french toast but bacon left something to be desired. saw R for a hot minute after, then popped into a consignment store (pants from yesterday didn't fit.) got 2 pairs of pants, one work shirt, and 2 sweaters for less than $7. rock & roll. (they all fit-- and are name brands-- two of them new w/tags.) leftovers for dinner, hoped to go see rob on the last night of the madison, but we miscalculated, and a phone call revealed that it was already closed for good. just as well, tired, lazy, lounged at the hotel instead. friday, lunch with L again, this time at the lucky star. had a turkey club, prob one of the best ever. fontina cheese, asiago bread, herbed tomato mayo, and the best bacon i've had in ages. icing on the cake was homemade potato chips, which i ate with entirely too much fervor. back to the office, tried to get R on the phone to no avail-- she'd fallen asleep after nursing her adorable youngest daughter. (six weeks old, c'mon, she totally deserved a nap!) so back to the hotel to pack for an hour, then R woke, invited me back for dinner with her and J and both of their daughters. angus steaks on their jennair grill, then sublime chocolate fondue along with good talks and a bit of reminiscing. a cup of chamomile just about knocked me out, had to sit for a few, borrowed a book, finally got back here near midnight. in the morn, dropped FC off and drove straight back here to work. plotting to come back once i get the honda if the winter specials are still in effect (well, even if they're not, since i didn't make it to norfolk to see my much-missed friends there (mp, i'm lookin at you).

swiped from my latest favorite LJ to read, that of writer/new orleans native docbrite Last Book Read: memories of my melancholy whores, gabriel garcia marquez Last Live Music Show Seen: walter, at some roadhouse outside of charlotte Last CD Purchased: marah, both the christmas album (a christmas kind of town) and the latest "regular" release (if you didn't laugh, you'd cry) Last Thing Cooked: um, rice a roni, with some green beans Last New Thing Eaten chicken pot pie Last Thing Bought: ugh, i spent $95 at target yesterday in TEN MINUTES. no lie. lotsa blank discs, some hair dye, that sort of thing. wait, just after that, i bought a jug of southern comfort. yum. Last Gift Received: a pair of PJs. Last Piece of Clothing Bought or Received as a Gift: see above. Last Embarrassing Experience i don't embarrass easily... hmm... nope, can't think of anything. Last Totally New Experience: is this a family establishment here? no? okay... um... let's just say "daisy chain" and leave it at that. the whole thing itself, not so new, but the specifics... yeah, nevermind. Last Foreign Country Visited, if any: wow, i have to go back almost four years for this one... mexico. gotta fix that in 2006. Last New Favorite Band (feel free to substitute enthusiasm of your own if not a music freak): nine inch nails.
